It can be done, funfiles was running a very very modded tbdev script with an xbt backend. I have the source somewhere, but never looked at how it was done. So yes it can be done if you have the skills. As far as it being a mod, I was the sysop there when this was done and I know it was a very extensive rewrite of the code.
