Re: advise please

You can upgrade, inside each version there is an upgrade script
before doing anything you should back-up your files (the entire site) and the database !

My advice: You should test it first, install the tracker on your PC (localhost) and make a test upgrade!

Re: advise please

you need to do the upgrade step by step ( from version to version )
is not working from 3.1 to 4.3 for example.... only with manual changing the database structure, etc.
now i working to a upgrade from 3.8 to 4.3. i managed to import the forum, the users but the torrents is not working.....
so make backup before any try !
or get all versions nulled (3.2, 3.3, 3.4.... etc to the last version you whant to install)

It is possible to move the users.

Search and you will find the script to import users and you can modify it to your needs

Re: advise please

or you could try manually doing it.. id suggest testing this first though as ive not ever used xam's shit

put all the files required in the latest source onto your test site (just the files dont import the database)

take a copy of ur existing database and set it up for the test site and then set the test source to point to the test database (you still following ??? lol)

then simply go through the SQL adding all the tables/fields that are missing for the new source to work... after that just get a few friends to browse and use the test tracker for a few hours and check every section just to make sure as you may encounter a few errors (most errors can be solved with a combination of coffee and google)

it may sound complicated but it beats upgrading bit by bit .. plus u never kno .. u might actually learn something about programming along the way :)
